Overview

Muğla Belediyesi Sosyal Hizmet Binası is a competition proposal for a municipal social services building in Muğla's historic Menteşe district. Inspired by local streets, courtyards, and traditional shared living spaces, the design creates a public threshold where architecture and urban life meet through culture, learning, and everyday interaction. Two public routes, Production Street and Art Street, connect workshops, exhibitions, and gathering spaces around a central courtyard. A pocket theatre forms the project's heart, opening toward an outdoor amphitheatre so one stage can serve both indoor and outdoor audiences. Libraries, study spaces, and administrative areas occupy the upper floors, while shared terraces provide places to pause, work, and socialise. White façades and adjustable timber shading reinterpret Muğla's architectural identity. Natural ventilation, daylight, solar energy, and rainwater drainage support environmental performance, shaping an accessible civic building that brings cultural activity and community life into the city's daily rhythm.
